AN OPINION ESSAY

Nowadays, there are people who live in the countryside, but most people prefer t olive in big cities. We don’t agree that it’s better for children to grow up in the countryside, as we think that is easier to live in the city.

In the first place, in the city there are a lot of places and buildings which are necessary for daily life. These can be supermarkets, in order to buy food. Other buildings which are essential are schools for children’s learning and hospitals. In addition, other places where children can enjoy are cinemas, bowlines, sports halls, amusement parks because everybody likes to go there.

In the second place, the children’s friends usually like in the same area. For that reason, they can go out with their friends and they can go at the park or at the pool together.

To sum up, in our view, it’s better that the children grow up and live in big cities. We believe that if all children lived in the city, they would be happier.

ARE YOU FOR OR AGAINST USING ANIMALS FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH?

Using animals for medical research is a very controversial topic. Scientists use animals to discover new drugs and treatments. However, there are arguments both for and against this practice.

One of the arguments for using animals is that we can use then to discover new drugs, such as the zebrafish, which is used in the research of regenerative medicine. Also, the animals have long produced developments. Therefore, frogs have helped to make pregnancy tests. In addition, all these experiments help people heal and they improve operations, transplants and so on.

On the other hand, animals are live beings and we deprive them of liberty. Also, some people say that we shouldn’t allow scientists to use animals because they may die in order to achieve results. Moreover, it is a cruel and dangerous practice for animals.

To sum up, I’m not in favour of using animals because scientists use animals as objects. I believe that if it continuous we should have stricter controls on research and experiments.

CLEAN OUR MEADOW

Hello, I'm Paula. I'm writing because two days ago I went to the meadow with my mother and my sister; we wanted to have a picnic, but we couldn't stay there because they're was a lot of trash and plastic bottles on the ground, the air was pollted because of the great quantity of factories there are nearby. Also, there is a lot of food scattered on the ground and there are other bad things. Because of this, there weren't any animals. This photo shows the bottles, cans and other rubbish which the people have throw away.

I think there are two reasons for this. Firstly, tourists aren't responsible enough and they don't care about the environment, so perhaps we need people who clean the meadow. Secondly, teenagers come here for parties and make a lot of noise and they dirty.

We must do something about this situation. Maybe there isn't much rubbish in other places. I don't know, but we must definitely do something here if we want a cleaner meadow. Maybe, volunteers could go to clean up and pick up rubbish. So it would be a more beautiful meadow.

THE IMPOSSIBLE

I'd like to recommend a film which my sister, Ari, Judit and me watched last year. The film is called The Impossible and it's directed by Juan Antonio Bayona. The film was released in October 2010. The main characters are maria Bennett, she's forty-for, Henry Bennett, he's forty-one, Lucas Bennett, he's sixteen, Thomas Bennett, he's eleven and Simon Bennett, he's nine.

It's a drama film and the setting is Alicant and Thailand. The plot is about a family that go Thailand out Christmas and there is a tsunami and the family is separated. They have a lot of problems. It's a struggle to survive and be together again.

The things I liked most about the film were the characters, especially Lucas because he's a child and he does his bes to save his mother. Same of the scenes are memorable because they're really strong, and I loved the last scene, when the family meet again.

All in all, I really liked the film, and though it has got a happy ending, I wouldn't change it. It's still got a strong message, and it's very beautiful.

A childhood memory

When I was a child, approximately four years old, I had a very special Christmas.
On the 25th of December i woke up and I woke up Carla because she and me slept in the same bedroom. My parents were still together and Carla and me woke up them. When we were all in the living room, my dad prepared the 'pooplog' and Carla and me hit it. She and me were very curios. It 'pooped' two bicycles, some clothes, two skating skirts and something more. I was cheerful!
At lunchtime my parents, my sister and me went to our grandparents' house. We had a Christmas party with my parents and my sister, my grandparents, my cousins, my uncles and my aunts. We were a complete family. All were happy. The adults made the ''Secret Pal''. I ate some traditional food. After that, we talked, joked, played and did other activities. Later, in the evening, we went to the other grandparents' house. There were my other relatives. We had a great dinner and my sister, Paula, my cousin, and me played with the gifts. Also, we talked about our things and laughed all the time. We had great fun.
At night, I went home and I slept.

My best friend

Judit Morales and I are friends. Judit lives in Banyoles with her mum and her younger brother. She lives in a modern flat. She's got one dog, it's called Laika. And she's got four cats. Their names are Afri, Nina Sonny and Ninu. We go to the same school. I met her at first of ESO, and we became very good friends at the end of the course.

Judit is fourteen years old. She's quite tall and she's got long dark hair and big brown eyes. Also, she's got curved eyebrows and she's got a round mouth. The good thing about her is that she's funny, friendly and generous, although she can also be stubborn sometimes, and she's proud.

Judit is happiest when she's chatting with her friends. She likes going out and meeting other people. There's a big new bowling in Girona and we often go there. She doesn't like playing football, but she loves dancing hip hop. She can dance very well!
